Linus does run a really large project with many, sometimes random, contributors quite efficiently and it's not possible to tell whether it's because, despite, or regardless of his style with a sample of one. I'm also reasonably sure that Lennart Poettering's experience does not generalize. He is rather unique within the Linux community.
