Could Amazon Glacier use some pre-consumer form of this technology?

  I doubt it. There's a long, long way from the theoretical finding to the practical device. Writing and reading speed has been mentioned. Another point is that as the dots become smaller, the mechanical parts need to be much more precise, moving the device from consumer parts to really expensive parts and assembly.
