I thought the only really legitimate gripe he had was the non-standardized interpretation of the edge cases, and once we get a number of decent CommonMark implmentations / refinements to the spec, we should be able to handle those fairly soon. I use Markdown to take text notes; it's quick to write, and especially with my text editor's syntax highlighting it looks decent too.
