About the film:
Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which celebrated its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them, and a fluid discussion with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type.
- MikeCapone 17y agoBy total coincidence I watched that movie yesterday. I enjoyed it, though it's mostly just a bunch of people's opinion about Helvetica/modernism/post-modernism. Doesn't good much deeper than that in typeface design. Can't remember where I heard about it (possibly MetaFilter, or here?).
- anigbrowl 17y agoMeFi, it was posted there a couple of days ago including the film link. My favorite comment from the the resulting thread was 'Impact or go home, font dorks', which I have been unable to get out of my head since.
