This might seem counterintuitive but if this company is juggling invoices...stopping work is the worst thing to do because you fall off their priority list of people they need to pay. while i don't think you should work with struggling companies and you definitely shouldn't work if there is a high likelihood of not getting paid.. but if you want to get paid...the best thing you can do is show how it's in their best interest to prioritize paying you over other outstanding invoices...
