You should read Command and Control which is about the history of nuclear accidents and management in the US. Carelessness didn't go away for a long time, especially in the upper management.
Very well written and interesting book.

- dirktheman 12y agoThanks! I loved Fast Food Nation, and wasn't aware he wrote a new book. This is right up my alley!
- Malic 12y agoTo anyone that wants to read this book (and you should), be prepared to frequently hold one hand under your jaw - to prevent it from hitting the floor when it falls. And if cold-war nuclear lore is your thing, check out the photo gallery at http://atomic-annhilation.blogspot.com http://atomic-annhilation.blogspot.com
- pavel_lishin 12y agoWeird, says not currently available for purchase - I don't even have the option to add it to the wish list.
- mrbill 12y agoClick one of the formats (Kindle, hardcover, etc) and you should be able to purchase then.
- pavel_lishin 12y agoAh, thank you!
- tedjdziuba 12y agoAlso worthwhile is "Five Myths about Nuclear Weapons" http://www.amazon.com/Five-Myths-About-Nuclear-Weapons/dp/0544103254/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412089930&sr=8-1&keywords=myths+about+nuclear+weapons http://www.amazon.com/Five-Myths-About-Nuclear-Weapons/dp/05... A very well-researched book that challenges, adequately in my opinion, some of the fundamental assumptions about nuclear weapons. First and foremost, that "the atomic bombs ended the war with Japan".
- CamperBob2 12y agoIt helps to understand that the bombs weren't aimed at Japan, in an abstract sense. They were aimed at Russia.
