The betting shops, gambling outfits and lottery prey on people's desire to be "better off". It's another form of servitude if you ask me. There are responsible gambling campaigns but daytime TV is all about betting and online bingo and stuff so it's about the same as saying not to smoke whilst giving away the first 10 cigarettes for free.
