This referendum has convinced me that we should enfranchise 16 & 17 year olds for US elections. My main hangup before was that these people might be pressured by their parents into voting a certain way. It turns out not only do they have political minds of their own, their energy and intelligence was clearly a boost to the spirit of democracy so evident in this election. As adults, we often romanticize our childhoods, because well .. they are by and large romantic. The experience of discovering the world and yourself is the centerpiece of youth, and it's important that we have that perspective reflected in our democracies.
