How do I (a non dev) manage the development of a commercial product?

Hello all. I realize I am out of my depth when it comes to managing the development of a software product. In essence, I am looking to offer a hardware/software solution for my industry. For the sake of this question, let's call that industry, "custom video integration and installations". I am a intermediate level programmer, but a good systems technician/engineer with ~20 years of experience. Quite obviously, my lack of tenure in any kind of organized programming environment implies many impediments. My concept is to build a system based on a JS framework, likely Meteor or perhaps Sails. Is there a resource that I can study to familiarize myself with process of building a MVP with only freelance labor? Can I farm out the components to different teams so as to maintain separation of proprietary codebase? Go easy on me folks, but I would love a few ideas and to hear about your experiences.
