This would be really awesome as emergency internet access if twitter/facebook/google/etc did or were optimized for it.

- kschults 12y agoOr you could text them directly. This scenario is only useful in the case where you have SMS but no internet, and your intended recipient has internet but no SMS. EDIT: Also, as someone pointed out above, Twitter already has an SMS interface.
- benologist 12y agoThey're just a terrible example cause they're the one service you might already have access to that way. Twitter's only got 232 million users so anything that hinges on them is immediately not as useful as something that makes more of the internet - fb, email etc - available to more people, especially from someone else's device.
- benologist 12y agoWhere emergency warrants one-to-many communication + anyone still has a smartphone that can send text messages.
- simonrobb 12y agoIt's becoming common for Twitter to used for updates and coordination in disaster zones. And I guess if I wanted to let my friends know I was safe in such a situation, and didn't want to text them all, Facebook would be a good choice.
- cbhl 12y agoTwitter is already optimized for SMS. Why would you access it through this? You just need Twitter to be connected to your carrier.
- benologist 12y agoYeah that's a bad example, but then there's facebook, email, wikipedia, news etc that can all alleviate emergencies.
