Normally Fortran was used for academic/math (ForTran stands for Formula Translation, Cobol in busines (Cobol stands for COmmon Business-Oriented Language).
- JackFr 12y agoFortran found its way into finance because it was the programming language taught to engineers in school. (These were real engineers -- software engineers hadn't been invented yet.) If you hired them to build computer systems you got systems in Fortran unless you specified otherwise.
