Dude. You've just described free markets eating themselves.
- angersock 12y agoNo, that's not quite it. Read it again.
- randyrand 12y agomixing free markets with an over-bearing state That is by definition not a free market. A pure free market has no regulation. Free markets don't exist in the United States.
- Lagged2Death 12y agoFree markets don't exist in the United States. Well hey now there's always the crystal meth market. Crystal meth being the vile stuff that no true Scotsman would ever use.
- seanflyon 12y agoThe illegal drug market is dramatically constrained by government interference.
- dredmorbius 12y agoMany, you really are your own self-parody, aren't you. Have you even read Smith?
- seanflyon 12y agoMost people don't consider government intervention an act of the free market.
- Lagged2Death 12y agoIn this case the "intervention" was at the behest of the actors within the market itself. But somehow it magically doesn't count as an act of the market?
- seanflyon 12y agoBehest is the key word there. We are not talking actions of actors within the market, but about government interfering with market forces. That does not cease to be the case just because someone asked them to do it.
- sliverstorm 12y agoBut if the government was formed by the market actors, and is composed of market actors, and is directed by market actors, are the actions of the government not the market acting on itself?
- seanflyon 12y agoThe government is not part of the market. We do not choose whether or not the government has authority over us, it just does. There is no competition, no _market_ there. Without that distinction I cannot think of anything that would qualify as outside of the market and the term would become meaningless.
