For an in-depth discussion about low-carb diets and the history of the misconception that fats consumed = body fat and cholesterol levels I recommend the book (although I haven't finished it yet): Good Calories, Bad Calories: Fats, Carbs, and the Controversial Science of Diet and Health
- viggity 12y agoI've read Taubes book, word of warning, it is huge and it is a book about diet, not a diet book. Don't buy it unless you're committed :)
- johnking 12y agoI can second that, great book, with really interesting analysis of not just carbohydrates, but cholesterol too. Also his second book 'Why We Get Fat' is great too. He realised the former book was too lengthy for most, and wrote it to condense and abbreviate the info.
- Evgeny 12y agoAnd also make sure to read some decent reviews. I also was impressed by the GCBC, but I've been reading some reviews recently and turns out there's quite a lot Taubes took out of context, misrepresented or otherwise distorted. This one seems a good place to start: http://thescienceofnutrition.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/good-calories-bad-calories-a-critical-review/ http://thescienceofnutrition.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/good-c...
