I beg to differ. IMHO package management in Debian and derivatives is nothing short of brilliant. If a security issue arises in a library, or a new feature is implemented, you update it and all of the software using that library will benefit.
OTOH it would be great if apt could automatically take advantage of btrfs snapshots to better ensure atomic updates, or to allow rolling back from updates that might break something. This would be much better than just choosing a different kernel at boot.
- dsr_ 12y agoIt would, unfortunately, tie package management to a particular filesystem. As an optional item, I like it; letting it connect to zfs, btrfs, LVM, or what-have-you on a plugin basis seems plausible.
