This is not democracy but corruption of democracy. In this situation, Russia is being an opportunist by securing its interests in the area. the US holds no moral authority over Russia in that regard. Putin knows that westerners are war-weary. And compared to ISIS, Russia is still a saint. So it's the right time for them to support their rebel allies. Poor Ukraine is being torn apart between 3 world powers.
