Yes, it wouldn't work with western cultures. Things like rent of the shop, mouths to feed, etc get used a lot in bazaars. I reckon it's a form of appeal to fair

- pkinsky 12y agoI've always understood it as part of an act, a way to say 'lower the price or I walk' without causing offense. An equivalent response would be 'I would love to give you this deal, but my wife would divorce me for giving such a low price'.
