The ability for the general public to use this today without weeks of rendering time is pretty impressive in my book.

"soon, but that will require changes to the camera and gyroscope APIs on Android phones" is not nearly the same as "can use this today".

You probably can't use it on a flip phone or Nintendo DS, either, but it is available for use to the general public.

Are you really surprised that a tech demo is more impressive than a polished app you can run on your smartphone right now?

There's a difference between gyroscopic adjustment at/near real-time, vs multi-frame interpolation for generation of a path view outside the camera frame/path requiring hours/weeks of processing time.
