I thought my workplace and home were fairly silent, at least when I wanted them to be. (At home, I usually had something going on in the background, such as music, but if I found it bothersome, I could always turn it off) This summer, I took a trip out to the Rockies and went on a few hiking trips. Some of the trails were pretty much empty of human traffic during the later hours. The vastness of nature, coupled with the trees and lack of wind that day made for a deafening silence similar to an anechoic chamber. It was truly stunning.
