Not true. It has been known since the 1950s (and likely earlier) that Ni oxides can function as water splitting catalysts (both for hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution half reactions).
- nardi 12y agoOf course you're right. I meant that no one thought nickel oxides would be practical compared to noble metal catalysts. I haven't read the article, but I assume they're using some kind of novel nanostructuring to increase the catalytic activity.
