I don't think it's neo-Luddism. I just think that certain outlets, like Ars, dislike US telecom companies and will seize on most opportunities to criticize them. Now, US telecom companies aren't very likeable, sure. I'm with them there, as I imagine most people are. But it's not good journalism.
