When was the last time you walked into a fast food burger place and heard sizzling in the background? I haven't taken the time to find out but I do know that, in the rare times I visit a Burger King or Jack-in-the-Box, I have not seen anyone 'flipping burgers' but, instead, grab them out of what looks like a steamer. So my suspicion is, no cooking takes place for burgers, at least.
Can anyone verify that?
- ceejayoz 12y agoI believe Wendys still grills fresh.
- moron4hire 12y agoThat's why I like Five Guys, Waffle House, and a slew of local diners. You can see the cooking happening. Having been a former line cook myself, I know what a good kitchen looks like.
- afafsd 12y agoAt Macca's at least they no longer get flipped, but they are cooked from raw-and-frozen by a top-and-bottom grill thing, apparently in forty seconds. http://www.ehow.com/how-does_4616233_mcdonalds-make-burgers.html http://www.ehow.com/how-does_4616233_mcdonalds-make-burgers....
- wavefunction 12y agoThat's how it was in 1994ish in the US when I was a youngin workin the griddle. It was already pretty automated back then: slap down some frozen hockey-puck burgers, lower the top griddle down which trips an automated timer. When the timer tripped, the upper griddle released, an alarm sounds letting the griddle operator know that the burgers are ready for retrieval. Then generally they were placed in warming bins unless it was rush when they were immediately needed for burgers. It was a horrible job, mostly because I am a diligent employee even at a McDonald's, my fellow employees were not, and the assistant manager was dealing meth to many of them. He was the franchise owner's son.
- MereInterest 12y agoOff-topic question: What geographic region are you from? I have never before heard McDonald's referred to as "Macca's", and I am wondering which dialect it is from.
