It's not just average people, but "average tech writers" too. If it keeps the name Dark Mail, most of them would use the angle: "Dark Mail is for hackers and criminals who want to escape law enforcement's snooping"....or something like that - rather than the "DIME is for people who value privacy and want to escape the government's mass surveillance" angle.
