While everything about wine-tasting is debatable, it must be said that sommeliers / wine tasters spend a lot of time training themselves to discern the scents and flavours of the different wines. In fact there are several wine tasting training sets for sale, with tens of different wine aromas. As humans OTOH, our smell is inferior to, say, dogs.
