Maybe it's me but I feel like sort is an overstudied problem. There are much more interesting challenges with datastructures and algorithms.
EDIT: the blog post presents a benchmark on two completely different datastructures (numpy matrix vs python list), it is unclear if any conclusion can be drawn.
