+1 for the First Law books.
The Sandman Slim series by Richard Kadrey are great.
Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake
The first 6 books in the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan are very enjoyable.
EDIT:
The Bas-Lag books by China Miéville are wonderful.
- will_work4tears 12y agoSandman Slim was surprisingly good. His attitude did start to get on my nerves near the end, but not enough to ruin the series. It's also free on Kindle Unlimited. The whole series IIRC.
- abakker 12y agoI'll do the obligatory chime in to say that final books of WoT make the series worth it. Not the most perfectly executed series, but a good read, nonetheless. Mostly, its quite a bit of fun. books 7-10 are tough, but if you are a fast reader, it'll go by quick enough. Note: Don't do 7-10/11 on audio, thats a sure way to get tired of it.
