I wouldn't say its "misleading", it is a correct usage of the word online (especially contrasted with offline learning) and is the name of the sub-area. You won't find many (most?) papers in the area with those search terms unfortunately.
- dj-wonk 12y agoThese so-called "online" techniques do not require being online (as in connected to the internet); they simply require being exposed to a stream of ongoing training data. They learn incrementally. This is why I say the term "online" is misleading.
