I often wonder if people even read the articles. Yes this drug expensive upfront. Why is it expensive? Unknown. Does its development process justify its expense? Unknown. Is this drug a potential cure versus a lifetime of (more expensive) maintenance treatment? Likely. Are there competitors coming to market soon (as someone else mentioned)? Most likely Edit: Larger costs spread over the long term are more palatable than lesser costs compressed into a shorter term. Humans are bad at estimating scale.
