Haha. The hubris that inheres in that sort of disposition reminds me philosophically of Mobutu somehow:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobutu_Sese_Seko http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobutu_Sese_Seko
"In 1972, Mobutu renamed himself Mobutu Sese Seko Nkuku Ngbendu Wa Za Banga ("The all-powerful warrior who, because of his endurance and inflexible will to win, goes from conquest to conquest, leaving fire in his wake."[11]), Mobutu Sese Seko for short."
- _pius 17y agoMobutu was a brutal despot ... I don't see the comparison.
- abalashov 17y agoI never implied the similarity that you are seemingly calling into question.
- sethg 17y agoMobutu Sese Seko was the president of Zaire, now called the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Nigeria is a different country from Zaire/DRC. They don't even share a border, they have no ethnic groups in common, and their post-independence political and economic development are very different. Furthermore, as a citizen of the United States of America, I am offended by the suggestion that any other country can surpass us in national hubris. National hubris is our core fucking competency.
