I doubt she hired a PR agency to promote her science fair project, I'm imagining that her Mom/Dad knew about the lionfish thing told her about it, she did a typical science fair job of things, and the media grabbed ahold of it after someone told them about it. Science + Media = Science Fiction Like most things science fiction, the science is there purely as a backdrop for what is a human interest story.
