I think LIKE keyword in MySQL is totally a mess. It provide functionalities like regular expression search which is very useful and unlikely to be indexed. But many programmers abuse this and take it to do full-text search which is a disaster.
- ars 17y agoLIKE is not a MySQL keyword, it's a required keyword from the SQL spec, it's part of all SQL databases. Good SQL programmers know to only use it for prefix-matching, where it is very fast. Bad ones (like the author of this post), don't know SQL, and use some query builder tool. NEVER use an SQL query builder!
