I am a grad student and my wife is a PostDoc, this puts us right at the median income in the US. I think we live well, but we also don't spend much: my wife hates stores. On this income we are able to afford to live in a nice suburb outside Boston. I am really worried about having a kid towards the end of the year though. Daycare in this area costs about $20k per year.
