If you enter a '.' as your surname, will G+ omit this when displaying your name?

  Yes. It will be rendered in G+ as a mononym.

    If it does, then it does so inconsistently. For me it doesn't on the About page: https://plus.google.com/u/0/115709092170300569371/about https://plus.google.com/u/0/115709092170300569371/about

      There was a bug uncovered as part of the launch today where some of them aren't rendering properly - there's a fix in the works; the dot should disappear when it goes live without any action on your part. (Don't know when it will go live yet.)
