I was amazed by that figure as well. They are six-foot extensions that decrease fuel consumption by about 4 to 6 percent [1]. I'd imagine that insurance and warranties mean that operators can only use approved Boeing parts.

- mnw21cam 12y agoInsurance - will they pay us if it breaks? Warranties - will they replace it if it breaks? Regulation - will they sue the pants off us and ban us from flying if we use a non-approved part, regardless of whether it breaks or not?
