I personally feel the same way, especially the bit about always emerging a new person each time, and also do not have a smartphone for this reason. When I'm alone, actually, what I want is to document my experiences-- not necessarily for anyone to see later, just to keep some kind of record. This is usually this is not in the form of pictures I can take of my external surroundings, but of ideas or feelings I have in my head.
