I thought it was kinda cool, but unsuccessful. It's probably something that sounds better on paper. I'm happy it exists. People should try weird things and show others, good or bad. Then everyone get's to learn what works and doesn't. Experimentation is good! Especially on low-risk ventures, like blog layouts. I think the response to unsuccessful experiments like these should be more like, "That's interesting, but I made it harder for me," rather than, "What the hell were you thinking?"
