    Seems to me that "Usage note" can be summed up as: Often people use it wrong. This doesn't irritate most, but some people prefer the English language be used correctly.

      Language is usage is language. Although I believe there to be no "correctly," I do believe that this is a deplorable case of a word losing meaning, without a suitable replacement.
