Will those who decline to participate in this system be subject to criminal sanctions, or merely locked out of participation in public life.
- scotty79 12y agoProbably the second one. It will be hard for anyone to believe what your name is if the only thing you can present to back up your claim is piece of oficially looking plastic and all other people can present digital signature that can be verified online. You'll probably will be able to participate in activities that don't require trust in your identity. Buying a muffin, sure. Renting an apartment, no chance in hell.
- newaccountfool 12y agoDoes renting an apartment require an ID? I don't think it's illegal if you don't! What's wrong with cash in hand every month?
- johnny22 12y agocredit checks to guess your likelihood of on time bill payment
- pjc50 12y agoIn the UK, you are now legally required to check the immigration status of your tenants: http://www.rics.org/uk/knowledge/news-insight/comment/landlords--agents-to-check-immigration-status-of-tenants/ http://www.rics.org/uk/knowledge/news-insight/comment/landlo... However, there isn't a national identity card scheme, so this will probably be messy.
- newaccountfool 12y agoShowing a drivers licence or passport is all you need, that's a valid ID card.
- pjc50 12y agoThe person presenting a UK license or passport is the easy case. The person presenting a non-European passport and a pile of letters from the Home Office? Not so much. But then, discriminating against foreigners was the point of the law.
- andypants 12y agoYou don't care who you rent your property to?
- newaccountfool 12y agoYou take a month, or two months deposit up front? What does it matter what they do in there, I've got two months rent deposit, do what you want.
- jfoutz 12y agoUnless you're living on hitting people up for spare change - or being paid under the table in cash - There is very little you can do. Cash a check? Open a bank account? Buy a car? Maybe you can buy it, but the registration, insurance and the license to drive the thing already require a state issued ID.
- jkaljundi 12y agoYou can still present your passport or drivers license in offline world, if you choose. Why would renting an apartment require an id? Never heard of that, just 2 people coming to an agreement. Quite often nobody asks to see your papers.
- jkaljundi 12y agoYou just don't use the online services. Instead you fill in papers and stand in queues. As easy as that, you just waste 10 times more of your time.
