I'll speculate: Testing. * maybe with ZFS, there were problems like slow speed, unreliability, poor resource use, etc... more speculation of Apple's testing benchmarks... * maybe without ZFS, no problems were found in testing. If this was the case, and remember I am speculating, I would ship without ZFS, easy.
