I'd say integration and control are N+1 optimization, not 0+1 invention. Things like new forms of quantum logic/algorithms, artificial atoms, metamaterials, even subvocal tools (moving us from graphical user interfaces towards thought-based user interfaces), are more 0+1 to me.
