Although slightly weird to say, I am hosting a Minecraft server for my son and his friends to play on (14-16 year olds). It is a fast machine with 32gb of RAM, enterprise drives and it holds up great with 10 people on it. They are using over 400gb a month. But I can totally see that a company trying to host minecraft servers as a business would really need a decent amount of hardware. This all costs money, plus electricity, plus bandwidth.
