Well, the primary goal was reflation, so by that measure, it's been a resounding success so far. Growth, exports, and consumer spending have been boosted a lot, too. I'm a little worried that the sales tax increase will reverse this trend, but we will see.
- ekianjo 12y agoYou don't measure success in economics over a single year. Already companies are starting to revise their forecasts since they are starting to face expensive commodity prices (coming from the weaker yen) and the whole domestic economy is hurting because of the rising Petrol price. Yeah, a resounding success by all measures! Let's reconnect in 5 years and see such policies transformed Japan for the best.

Please do not distort my words. But yes, you're right; it could end as an unmitigated disaster economically. We just don't know yet.
