- devindotcom 12y agoWhy is it strange? "The 20th century" is a complete and relatable concept for many people, easy to comprehend as a unit.
- syncerr 12y agoIt usually makes sense to vary a single dimension when comparing metrics; not two.

- maxerickson 12y agoI think the idea is more to emphasize the relative rate of development in China in recent times (as opposed to the specifics of the comparison being terribly interesting).
