In general, I have noticed that posts that get upvoted have good content and the title has at least one word in it that people recognize such as HTML5, SQL, Go, etc. However if the title is full of buzzwords, it is probably linkbait and not cool. As others have said, timing is important too. I once posted an article and it was off the "new" page in ~10 minutes because I just happened to post when a bunch of other people did.

I was tempted to write an article about building a single page application with server side rendering using postgres, express, react and nodejs only so I could submit the article to HN as "Building a SPA with SSR using the PERN stack".
- kinj28 12y agodo you suggest this title of my show HN doesnt resonate with people? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7861469 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7861469
- rpedela 12y agoI am not an expert so I don't really know. Please take my opinion with a grain of salt. I personally don't find it engaging because I don't have any sense what it means. Sharing HN articles is not something you usually do with a team nor is it a problem I personally need solved. So I would probably skip looking at it because it didn't grab my attention. Your website seems to be a bit like Reddit so maybe using an analogy to it would help your post stand out. Reddit might not be the best analogy, but the idea is to use an analogy that is understandable and recognizable.
