It's weirdly common to hear about people getting laid off from the same company more than once—i.e., they get laid off, rehired, and laid off again in a span of two or three years
It's not too weird. This was how factories used to work on a regular basis. Guys would work for 8 months, get laid off, get unemployment for 2 months and lay around the house bugging their wives, then get called back again. Repeat until retirement. The supply chain techniques have improved so that doesn't happen very much now.
- seanewest 12y agoBut that sounds like a dependable cycle... one you could financially depend on. Your situation is more uncertain when you get laid off in the game industry.

- collyw 12y agoI would be quite pleased with unpaid leave for two months, if I knew it was coming.
- GotAnyMegadeth 12y agoOnly if you had enough money to survive for 2 months...
- nnq 12y agoThat's the point, if you know it's coming you'll adjust your lifestyle to have enough OR you'll negotiate a bigger salary from the get go to compensate for planned down time.
- yen223 12y agoThat strongly resembles life of an oil-rigger. 6 months hard labour, 6 months vacation, rinse, repeat.
- Anderkent 12y agoThe key here is that it's vacation, not being laid off.
