Honestly, I wouldn't hold it against you if the game runs well only on Ubuntu's default window manager. I routinely run games in a separate X server with just openbox running to prevent such problems. I can and if I have to, I will download an older version of libjpeg or libgnuc++ or whatever, build them and install them.
The problem with Witcher 2 (an excellent game btw) is that it didn't run well even in Ubuntu's default wm, or in openbox, or on Linux at all.
- coldpie 12y agoWell, we strive for a better user experience than "try to build and install an old libjpeg without fucking up your whole system". Officially we only support certain distros, but we still try to make it as pleasant as possible on unsupported and old distributions.
- anon4 12y agoYou're doing better than some package maintainers for Arch Linux (my distro) then :) . In their defence, there is a system for user-supplied packages and usually "old 32bit version of libjpeg" is pretty painless to install.
