Actually, I don't make any advertising revenue off my surkan.com blog. I just want to have a central location for the links to all the articles I write. This particular article was originally posted at NetworkWorld (where I am a blog contributor), but I want to be consistent in always only pointing to links at my primary surkan.com site, even if the original article I wrote was elsewhere.
- brk 17y agoPer the site guidelines, and common courtesy, you should link to the actual content, not to a link to a link to the content. Your site is even worse, it's a no-name blog with a bit.ly link to the final article. Had I come across that randomly I would have probably just hit close or back.
- Sniglet 17y agoYou make a good point. Maybe there is a way I can post links on my blog that take people DIRECTLY to the article on another site without requiring another click. Unfortunately, if I don't drive traffic through my primary blog location I have no way of knowing what my traffic levels are, and which stories are the most popular, etc (i.e. so I know what to write about in the future). Anyway, it is valid criticism that I should not make people have to go through multiple clicks.
- brk 17y agoSorry, let me be more clear. Submit the link that contains the actual content. There are no practical limits on URL length in submissions here. Thus, there are no need to use URL shortening, redirectors, or other forms of man in the middle obfuscations. If you want to know what stories people like, come back and read the comments and see what was upvoted.
