My employer has no place asking me to do anything on my personal social media. I'd have a huge problem with this. Personally I try to never cross the line between work and play with my social media accounts. I also know people who would never update their linkedin or facebook with current employment information because they don't want people know what they are doing. The reasons range from avoiding recruiter spam to avoiding violent ex-boyfriends.
