It just saves to your local filesystem, so you can sync with drive or dropbox if you want, layer some encryption in between with fuse.
There's a mobile client, but you'll have to keep the note directory synced manually with a 3rd-party app.
- lugg 12y agoDoes it not work for btsync? Just curious why you would mention Dropbox and drive when they have the same privacy concerns. Or are you wanting to move away from ever note for another reason? Edit: tagspaces page says it works with bts.
- Inufu 12y agoI work for Google, so not really concerned about the privacy of Drive. The main reason why I don't want to use Evernote is because I want to store my notes in plain text files, so I can keep using them even in say 50 years.
- tim_sw 12y agoYou might like org-mode especially if you're an emacs user.
- FireBeyond 12y agoYou realize that Evernote stores notes in XML? Not perfect, but pretty human readable.
- unhammer 12y agoIf I worked for Google I'd probably be _more_ concerned since it's now colleagues who can read my stuff, not just anonymous-sysadmin-I-will-never-meet =P
- PhasmaFelis 12y agoWhen I've wanted to use Dropbox (or Drive, etc) to sync app data that needs to be in a certain place (game savefiles, mostly), I've had good luck just moving the data directory to my Dropbox and then symlinking from the original location. That should be doable on Android with any old terminal program, though you may need to root the device just to install basic command line tools like "ln".
- brian_cloutier 12y agoThat's not exactly how dropbox for android works [0]. It doesn't sync a folder on your phone that you can modify, it syncs the metadata and downloads files when you specifically ask for them. Local storage is used as a cache, you can't just add files and expect them to be uploaded without uploading them from within the app. 0: https://www.dropbox.com/help/82/en https://www.dropbox.com/help/82/en

- dm2 12y agoI found http://owncloud.org http://owncloud.org after looking through the http://tagspaces.org http://tagspaces.org site. I really can't wait to install them and see if they are the personal content management systems that I've been looking for for years. They both can also be installed on Window/Linux/Mac/Android/iOS/Web (on private server, nice interfaces, PHP based I think). Anyone know of similar web-based (but self-hosted) software like this that might be life-changing?
- akhiluk 12y agoBe sure to check out Wallabag (http://wallabag.org http://wallabag.org), an open source self-hosted read-it-later client, kind of like Pocket/Instapaper. They also have another website (http://framabag.org http://framabag.org) where you can try it out with a free account.
- unhammer 12y agoThe one I use most in addition to ownCloud is http://subsonic.org/ http://subsonic.org/ – after I ripped my full music collection I no longer felt the need for a Spotify subscription. Subsonic has a really nice Android app, but the only iPhone app I found was quite confusing, so if you're using an iPhone you should probably … make a new app :) BTW, ownCloud used to have a remoteStorage provider plugin that would've been useful for Laverna, but it was removed due to various issues :-/ https://github.com/owncloud/core/wiki/Project%20ideas#owncloud-as-backend-for-web-apps https://github.com/owncloud/core/wiki/Project%20ideas#ownclo... may lead to a new one

- philamonster 12y agoI've used Subsonic for roughly 4 years now and have used both iSub for iOS and the official android app and find both to be quite similar. Only exception being on both my S3 and now S5 there being no playback options with screen locked. iSub integrated nicely into iOS and had same functionality on lock screen as iTunes.
- emsy 12y agoAm I the only one who thinks encoding the tags into the filenames doesn't seem scalable if you have many little files and deep hierarchies? (Which I actually have quite often!)
- unhammer 12y agoand what if you want to tag a file that's tracked by version control? or a figure that's referred to by some .tex file? or a huge film that will be deleted and resent by rsync next time your backups run?
- pjc50 12y ago"The application persists the tags in the file names." That implies that it renames your files for you - can someone who's used it confirm this?
- jgj 12y agoyes, that is exactly what it does. It adds your tags inside of square brackets at the end of the file name before the extension. It's built in node-webkit [1] though, so it wouldn't (shouldn't) be too hard to integrate websql, sqlite or some other database [2].
