- gioele 12y agoNot related to the article posted here, but yes, move to Gandi. Gandi is expensive but Gandi is the best registrar you will ever find (if you do not have to deal with DNS records every day but only seldomly). Gandi support is great. And they did never advertise: <http://www.gandibar.net/post/2014/03/26/Why-Gandi-doesn-t-advertise> http://www.gandibar.net/post/2014/03/26/Why-Gandi-doesn-t-ad....
- johnchristopher 12y agoThere is a typo in the url and it turns out to be funny: Document not found The document you are looking for does not exist. http://www.gandibar.net/post/2014/03/26/Why-Gandi-doesn-t-advertise http://www.gandibar.net/post/2014/03/26/Why-Gandi-doesn-t-ad... Sigh... I wouldn't dare to use the word 'ironic' on the internet ever again.
- gioele 12y ago> There is a typo in the url Argh, that HN parsing bug again. The HN parser has problems with angle brackets: if you write < URL > (without spaces), HN will leave the opening angle bracket untouched (good) and attach the closing angle bracket to the URL (very bad), so the URL written in the @href attribute will be wrong. Using < URL > (without spaces) is the way URLs are meant to be written in the middle of a sentence. It is sad that HN has problems with that syntax.
- chadcatlett 12y agoWhat have they be doing lately that one would consider sketchy? I ask because I haven't been following the news around them and I am curious since I have a ton of domains with them.
- dueprocess 12y agoI read Namecheap were sloppy on some security issues, like heartbleed vulnerability. They also swapped my contact info with theirs on several of my domains.

- Bill_Dimm 12y agoDid they give an explanation for the contact info getting changed (assuming you complained about it)? I'm wondering if it might be related to a botched data transfer between them and Enom (which does the actual registrations for NameCheap). The Enom link does seem to create problems sometimes. I once tried to renew a batch of domains and it reported that a few failed, so I did those ones again and got double-billed for them (customer service fixed it promptly). Other than that, I haven't had any problems with them (no contact details changed, although I just remembered that their email to confirm contact info once gave wrong data [I think my apartment number was dropped or something like that] when the actual whois was fine).
- danielweber 12y agoMaybe this is snobbish, but I wouldn't trust a critical piece of business infrastructure to a company with the word "cheap" in the title. Cheap pens and pencils? Sure. Cheap mouse pads? Okay. Cheap UPS or cheap name registrar? Nope.
