- spudlyo 12y agoI seem to remember that Venus image came with Deluxe Paint. Adding a third eye to it seems like something fun you might do when messing around with cut & paste. You can watch him on stage working with Deluxe Paint here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BQCdI4qLjo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BQCdI4qLjo

- iandanforth 12y agoEvery time I see discussion of Warhol I feel like I'm in the middle of mass hysteria, staring at a naked emperor. Everyone is entitled to their own artistic preference, but I blissfully imagine a day when people "come to their senses" and agree with me.
- kitcar 12y agoThat's the beauty of art, different strokes for different folks. By the way, some people (like me) enjoy Warhol not for his actual artistic creations, but rather for shining a light on the absurdity of it all, akin to the storyline of "Exit through the gift shop". Personally, I don't get Barnett Newman's paintings - http://www.gallery.ca/en/see/collections/artwork.php?mkey=35828 http://www.gallery.ca/en/see/collections/artwork.php?mkey=35...

- nawitus 12y agoWhy do you place so much emphasis on what art other people value?
- netcan 12y agoBecause he's a person and we're social animals. Because he's interested in art and wants to talk about it. I see nothing wrong with saying that art is good or bad and trying to convince people of your position.
- mcguire 12y agoBecause iandanforth (and I, and you) get to be surrounded by the "art that other people value", to the point that it drowns out what he (and I and you) might actually prefer to be looking at.
- netcan 12y agoI think when something/someone gets famous, valuable or prestigious beyond a certain level it's all mass hysteria. Art is especially vulnerable to this kind of thing. NPR just did a podcast about Stradivarius violins. One just sold for $12m. There were pepsi challenge like experiments were players and instrument makers tried to pick the multi million dollar antiques from the crowd of regular high end ($10k+) violins. They couldn't. There are parallels for wine and other things. Almost everyone has come and gone from the inner circles of the high-art gallery world seem to report how many emperors are wearing high heels and penis gourds. I think this is easier for us to accept today than at any other time. We have a lot of 'famous for being famous' people today, so it's not hard to believe that it's possible. That said, I quite like Andy Warhol.
